More Half Inch Hexies

Who knew when I started this hexie journey a little over a year ago that I would be basting a whole bunch of 1/2" pink tana lawn hexies.  I still had cut off's from my 1" die cutting adventure.  Had to use every last little scrap.  Here are about 200 of them.  I still have about 100 to go.  Good way to occupy my 15 minute breaks at work. I do not have a plan for them at this moment but was thinking more in the pincushion/mug rug direction rather than a whole quilt.

I did get my "Gemini" Villa Rosa together.  I used some 2.5" strips I got a couple of years ago on ebay.  They look like they might be Red Rooster fabric.  My oldest was here from Baltimore about a month ago and saw these blocks on the design wall.  He decided the quilt would look great on his family room couch.  Who was I to argue.  

I got my April block done for Jan.  She wanted Shabby Chic.  This was about all I had that screamed Shabby Chic.  I love all the bouquets of roses. I hope she likes green.

I went to an open house at the Quilt Haus a little south of Austin in New Braunfels.  They are starting a new modern quilt guild.  Since I am moving in two weeks just south of Austin it seemed like a good fit.  Hopefully they will get it started up soon.  My husband got a promotion but the job is in San Antonio which is about 1.5 hours south of Austin.  I still work in Austin.  We are moving somewhere almost in the middle until I can find a good job in San Antonio.  I have the sewing room almost packed except for the fixings for some block swap blocks.  I have been trying to do a little at a time.  Not looking forward to the move.  

Shop Hop Day 2

I ended up helping my friend Jessica at her shop on day 2 of the shop hop.  Of course that meant I had to buy some more fabric.  I decided I was going to make handbags for my daughters and granddaughters for Christmas.  I have not gotten beyond zipper pouches and fabric baskets yet so I bought sale fabric for bag practice.  I also decided to splurge and get six fat quarters of Anna Maria Horner Hand Drawn and some Cotton Couture solid to make a small quilt.  I certainly got plenty of practice in cutting and folding fabric.  Makes me glad I do not have a fabric store.  It is a lot of work.

I won some goodies from a my friend Barb's blog at  Bejeweled Quilts by Barb.  She had some Heat N' Bond and fusible vinyl to give away.  She is trying out these new products.  She does a lot of applique.  I am excited to try it out.  

Traveling Stash Giveaway-A Lot of New Fabric, Patterns, Etc.

I won the Traveling Stash box from Shannon at Nunu's Quilt World. I got it Thursday.  What a giant box of goodies.  I would like to pass this on to one lucky reader.  The only requirements for this traveling stash is that you post that you received it, take out what you want and replacement it with quality quilt store fabric and notions and then send it to a winner on your blog on a timely basis.

I went through the box and I have to admit the fabric was not exactly modern.  Very nice fabric and good quality goods but not necessarily my style.  There were some really cute kid prints, and other prints which I can use for my string blocks and some princess panels.  I do a lot of charity quilting so all of the fabric and panels that I took out of the box will go into making some really awesome quilts for my friend's charity Friends of Annie.  I am not all that into Christmas fabric so there is some really cute Christmas fabric left in the box.  Also some very cute pink panther and super hero yardage is still in the box. I took out some cute notions, needle threader, some decorative bias strips (for pillows),  some 1" hexie templates, a bobbin holder (which I really need - I have them in a box and loose thread is everywhere).  Also in the box was a Kindle Fire cover.  Since I have Kindle Fire and like to change out my covers that was a good fit.  I also took out some patterns that I would like to try.  

Below is a picture of what I took out of the box.  It ended up to be 9.5 yards of fabric.

I replaced it with 12 yards of fabric.

I hope you enjoy the traveling stash box and for every item you take out please replace it with something comparable.  This gave me a chance to destash fabric that I liked but had no plan for and patterns that I bought but have not used.  Again thank you to Shannon for sending me the box. Fabric Basket Swap Goodies

I got my anticipated fabric basket and goodies last week.  It was well worth the wait.  I got the Noodlehead divided basket, some zippers, embroidery thread, sewing case and a cute wall hanging.  I appreciate the time and effort that my partner put into both fabricating the the basket and wall hanging and coming up with what goodies to share.  The goody part is always hard for me.  It is hard to guess what your partner would like.  I am pleased as punch.  Have not figured out what to put in my basket yet but I am sure I will come up with something good.

I finished up my Anything Goes Quilt.  I was in a strip swap where the theme was anything goes.  There are a whole lot of "interesting" fabrics in this quilt.  I made a pledge to myself to use up items from my stash so this is my way of making a charity quilt from fabric that I would not necessarily choose for myself.

I used the Wistful pattern from Villa Rosa Designs.  It was a bit time-consuming to cut but I like the result.
